Workers at Luxury S.F. Hotels Reach Contract Deal

SAN FRANCISCO – After three months of negotiation, management and workers at 11 of San Francisco’s biggest luxury hotels reached accord on a five-year labor contract yesterday.

The agreements include 3 to 5 percent annual wage increases and higher pension benefits for room cleaners, dishwashers and other workers.

Under yesterday’s agreement, the lowest-paid workers – dishwashers and room cleaners – will reap the most benefits.

About 4,000 union members will vote Thursday on ratifying the pact.

The agreement comes after a Labor Day strike threat from the union and after demonstrations that resulted in arrests.
